At the beginning of this season I sat down with football analyst Rick Andreoli Montreal to discuss how we felt that the year was going to go, and we each made a prediction for the Premier League champions 20/21. I personally went for Liverpool and Rick, went for Manchester City. At this halfway stage I am now absolutely convinced that Rick was bang on the money with his suggestion and I actually think that Guardiola’s men will now romp home with the title.
Here is exactly why I think that there is only one team who can now win the title, and that is Manchester City.
Depth of Squad
Much has been said in recent years about the thin squad that City have had despite the untold millions that they have spent on it. This however is something that can no longer be levelled at this team, because they have great depth and sufficient cover for each and every position. Even as we speak they are without Sergio Aguero, and yet they are still scoring goals all over the place.
A Certain Belgian
In spite of the fact that he is out for the next couple of weeks, there is absolutely no getting away from the fact that Kevin de Bruyne is in the greatest form of his life and he has all of the necessary tools to take this City team by the scruff of the neck and lead them to the title. We have long known that KDB is one of the finest players in the world, and this year he is consistently showing exactly why we think that.
Counted Out
What many people failed to see this year, even as City did lose the odd game, was that they had so many games in hand that it was very difficult to assess whether or not they were doing well. Now that they have caught up those games, City sit on top of the table. It would appear that whilst everyone was talking about Spurs or Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United, City were steadily going about their business and now of course they are reaping the rewards for that. There is absolutely no doubt that City on top of the table and with everything in their hands is a very dangerous situation indeed, and that is what we are living through right now.
Defensive Solidity
And finally, the one weakness which so many spoke of was the City defence, especially talking about how much Pep had spent over the years. It would appear however that those problems are a thing of the past. Not only has Nathan Are taken to the team like a duck to water, but the renaissance of John Stones is a sight to behold and there is no holes in that defence right now.
This will be an interesting season of course, but with so many dropping points, we have to think that City run away with this now. And for more up to date news, check these articles out!
