Why We Need The Volunteer Firefighter Alliance

We have some absolutely incredible charities and organizations around the country which step up and help in a wide variety of situations. One such organization is the Volunteer Firefighter Alliance, a group of men and women who are trained in firefighting and who dedicate their own personal time to supporting the country. It takes a special kind of person to work in this position and we should all be incredibly grateful to those who do commit their time and their energy to supporting.

There are some charities which exist where they shouldn’t, those which essentially do the government’s job for them. In the case of the VFA however, this is an organization which we really do need, and here is why they are so important.

How It Works

There are members of the Volunteer Firefighter Alliance all over the country and they are trained up in the same way as firefighters are. The role of someone who is working for the VFA is to support when there is a situation, if the fire service simply doesn’t have the numbers which it requires to do the job. When there is a large fire, a huge wreck or any other situation which calls for the fire service, the members of the VFA will be instantly notified that their help is required.

Understaffed?

Many think that the reason why we need the VFA is that the fire services are understaffed, but in reality this is very rarely the case. Most fire services actually have more than enough staff for the kind of jobs which they see on a daily basis. Unfortunately however there are very often incidents which are just unprecedented and that calls for additional support. Some areas around the country can call on local fire services to come and support them, but they may very well be busy with their own situations. This is a perfect opportunity to call on members of the VFA to come and use their expertise to help with whatever the situation may be.

The reality is that if we staffed the fire service heavy enough to deal with anything that came their way, you would simply have firefighters doing very little and ultimately it would be a waste of resources and money.

Future Roles

Getting into the fire service is tough and what we often find is that when there are positions available, those who have previously been in the VFA will take on those jobs. This makes perfect sense of course because they are already trained and they already have experience of dealing with problematic situations. Those who wish to become firefighters that cannot, will join the VFA and then they are able to get a position as soon as there is a vacancy. This is essential like pre-training to be a real firefighter.

As you can clearly see, this is an organization which the nation needs and which provides a huge amount of value for fire services.
