Being a money-making machine to being blessed with good fortune in abundance, nurturing a money plant always blesses one with financial prosperity, for sure. And if this plant is stolen, it can have its own set of repercussions like loss of one’s wealth to the one who stole it.

Also known as Devil’s Eye, the money plant is a kind of low-maintenance indoor plant which can grow well both in soil and water. Due to this very reason, many people tend to decorate their fish aquariums with money plants as it would have twin benefits. Firstly, because it would keep the aquarium water purified and secondly because money plants can grow well in water and can suit the endearing look of an aquarium. Although, it is seen that the money plant growing in water has softer leaves than the one growing in soil.

It cleans the air that one breathes and fits in as a perfect home decor item, making it one of the much-loved houseplant which tends to magnify the great looks of our house. When compared among all the other houseplants, it is seen to be one of the most adaptable plants or a plant with a high survival rate. Unlike many other indoor plants, money plants don’t require direct sun rays and can do well in shady places. They can grow in any season and do not require any specific climatic conditions to thrive.

While most of us knew the money plant as a non-flowering plant, this lush green plant has beautiful white and cream flowers which have a strong fragrance that charms bats, bees, and butterflies. Quite demanding during the initial days of growth, a money plant needs an adequate amount of water. As per Vastu norms, it should be kept indoors in the southeast direction of the living room or hall. It is believed that Lord Ganesha will remove bad luck from the money plant owner and in return, shower them with wealth and prosperity. Many of us mostly know this plant as an epitome of good wealth and prosperity, but it’s peanut-like seeds used as a healthy snack, whereas the leaves and flowers of this plant are treated as a vegetable. All in all, a money plant is a super plant with mostly all its parts being a sheer blessing for the humankind. But, remember that the sap of this plant is poisonous, so make sure one doesn’t consume it.

The wide species of a money plant is a Monet tree which is said to grow up to a height of 50-60 feet tall. But when it is grown as a plant in a pot, then its height ranges from 10-15 feet only, letting us see that the environment factor affects plant growth. Each of its branches has around 5 leaves representing the 5 elements of Nature, i.e. air, water, fire, metal and wood. Surprisingly, not many people know, but money plants are said to have hidden seeds, which are hidden in their pods. These pods get enlarged as the time passes and bursts and then falls on the ground, giving rise to a new money plant.

Soil: Money Plant grows well in fertile, loamy soil. Such types of plants prefer neutral soil with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 to keep diseases and pests at bay. Having the capacity to tolerate minor drought conditions, still, a money plant prefers moist soil to grow in its fullest capacity.

Water: As this plant grows well in water, as well, one must make a note of those varieties growing in soil. Money plants growing in soil require a wet topsoil layer. Once the topsoil dries out, one must decide to water again.

Sunlight: Grows well in both direct or indirect sunlight at some shady places. Though, prefers partially sunny and partially shady sunlight for good growth.

Fertilising: Money plants require fertilising, once a month in the evening, and it may burn the roots during the daylight. Make sure; one doesn’t fertilise their money plants during the winter months.
