During the last few months we have seen he very best of what the healthcare workers do for this planet and it is not just those on the front line who have been doing their bit in the wake of this pandemic. There are also those who have been offering advice and education like Mark Swaim MD PhD who has been speaking out about the importance of remaining healthy during this situation. Health is important at all times of course but especially so given the situation that we are all in and here is exactly why it is so crucial that you are doing all that you can to stay healthy.
Virus
The most compelling reason as to why you should look to stay as healthy as possible is that those who have sadly succumbed to this virus, or those who have had it worse than others, are those who are out of shape and in poor health. We know that the large majority of people who have passed away are those over the age of 65 and with health concerns, but outside of this we are seeing that there are many who are obese and in poor health who are having a torrid time when they get the virus.
Mental Health
It is not just your physical health which you need to look after during lockdown and your mental health and wellbeing are arguably more important given the strange times that we are living through. The fear of what is happening, the sense of being trapped and the frustration at not being able to socialize are all important factors which can cause damage to mental health and that is why it is not just essential that we stay in great shape physically, but also so that we look after our mental wellbeing too. The beauty here is that the two things are not mutually exclusive and if you are able to stay in good health then you will also be able to increase your levels of positivity and optimism, ensuring that you stay in good mental health as well.
Temptations
Let’s be honest, spending all of our time at home does significantly increase the chances that you are going to want to spend more time on the sofa, and possibly taking in more junk food and alcohol, that temptation is certainly there. Whilst there is nothing to stop you from having a cheat day once a week, it is going to be very important that you look after yourself for the other 6 days and that you avoid those temptations which will only see you put weight on and then find it more difficult to then lose it.
The key is that you should be using this time to do something positive and what better way to be positive than to get in great shape and increase your general health? Healthy body and a healthy mind will work wonders for you.
